Replace ... substitute ... switch ... swap .... change ...

Do you remember our friends "replace" /rɪˈpleɪs/ and "replacement" /rɪˈpleɪsm(ə)nt/ ?

I think one of our example sentences was: "Patrick's smile was replaced by a frown".

The word "replace" comes from "place".
We add the prefix "re" to make the new verb.

Would you like to learn a little more about prefixes and suffixes?

Well, a good place to start might be this video from Cambridge English, available for viewing on that well-known online video sharing site.

(The link will take you to an official Cambridge English resource. It is not an International House resource.)

Watch the video and get thinking about words you know, or come across while studying, which are built up from other words.

See you in class!
